A little story about Zippy

Zippy moves before he thinks. A story about stopping to look — and going back for a friend.

Zippy spinning through a swirl of water — Whirl Bend is full of spinning currents. Zippy loves them! “Come on, Finley! Catch up!” Whoosh — round and round. Faster, faster, farther.

Zippy standing still with an “oh” face, claws up — Zippy stops. Oh. It’s quiet. He looks left. Right. No Finley. Only bubbles. Zippy went so fast, he forgot the friend behind him.

Zippy zooming forward at full speed — Zoom! Zippy races all the way back. “Sorry, Finley! I forgot to look. Let’s go together this time — your speed.”

Your child can answer, point to a picture, or simply keep listening.

For grown-ups

Let surprise be a starting point for playful noticing. There is no right answer.

In the books

Zippy appears in Finley and the Shadow of Fear. His own book is still to come.
