A little story about Finley

Finley gets scared — and takes small steps anyway. No need to ask about your child’s fears; Finley goes first.

Finley in the Misty Narrows, near the mouth of a dark cave — Finley sorts his pebbles by color. Pink, blue, pink… Oops! One rolls away, right to the mouth of a dark cave. Finley stops and looks.

Finley by a rock near the dark cave, his fins trembling — Finley pauses. His fins tremble. He isn’t ready to go closer yet.

Finley on the sand by a rock, turned toward Hugo, who has stopped beside him and looks back at him — Hugo stops beside him. “Want company?” Finley nods. He’s still scared. They pause together.
